2009 CPON® of the Year Award

The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation is calling for nominations for the 2009 CPON® of the Year Award. This annual award recognizes a CPON®  who has made significant contributions to pediatric oncology nursing and pediatric oncology nursing service; and who has supported and promoted oncology nursing certification. The CPON® of the Year will receive $1,000, and will be presented with a crystal award  at the Association of Pediatric Oncology Nurses (APON) 29th Annual Conference in 2009.

Self-nominations and third party nominations are encouraged. Completed nomination packets must be received at the ONCC National Office no later than April 1, 2009.

Award Criteria

Nominees must demonstrate accomplishments in the promotion of oncology nursing certification; and pediatric oncology nursing service; as well as in one of the following areas of pediatric oncology nursing; clinical practice, education, or research.
Promotion of Oncology Nursing Certification

  • Actively promotes oncology nursing certification among nursing colleagues, other healthcare professionals, and healthcare consumers

Pediatric Oncology Nursing Service

  • Enhances the image of pediatric oncology nursing among the general public
  • Participates in community affairs, legislative activities, or in organizations that affect nursing
  • Enhances the image of pediatric oncology nursing among healthcare professionals
  • Participates in community education

Pediatric Oncology Nursing
Demonstrates accomplishments in ONE of the following areas (nominee, nominator, and recommendations must all address the same area):

Clinical Practice

  • Develops or uses creative approaches to pediatric oncology nursing which enhance quality patient care
  • Serves as an example to inspire pediatric oncology nurse peers
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the care of children with cancer and their families

Education

  • Participates in the education and development of nurses
  • Participates in patient/family teaching
  • Participates in educating other disciplines about pediatric oncology nursing

Research

  • Participates in the research process
  • Applies research findings to nursing practice
  • Conducts research which positively affects pediatric oncology patient care

 

Eligibility Criteria

  1. All award nominees must be currently CPON® certified.
  2. All award nominees must be currently licensed as RNs (or possess equivalent foreign credentials).
  3. Members of the ONCC Recognition Subcommittee and the ONCC Board of Directors are not eligible to be nominees, to nominate individuals, or to provide recommendations for nominees.

 Nomination Instructions – Use the Quick Links at right to access the nomination forms

  1. Each nominee must submit the following materials:
    1. A completed Nomination Form;
    2. Two Recommendation Forms (must use forms provided);
    3. A Biographical Sketch Form (must use form provided);
    4. A signed Release Form.
  2. All materials must be submitted together.
  3. All materials must be typed. If you do not have access to a typewriter, you may download the application forms in Windows Microsoft® Word format (see below). Simply fill out each form in Microsoft® Word, print them out, and mail them in.
  4. All forms must include a signature
  5. Completed nomination packets must be received by mail, fax, or email no later than April 1, 2009.
  6. Use only the official ONCC application forms for nominee submission.
  7. Only two recommendations will be accepted. Additional recommendations will not be considered.
  8. The nominator may not submit a Recommendation Form. Recommendations made by the nominator will not be considered.
  9. Incomplete or late nominations will not be considered.
  10. Additional materials or supporting documentation will not be considered.
  11. All decisions of the ONCC Recognition Subcommittee and ONCC Board of Directors are final.
  12. Award recipients must agree to be recognized in ONCC Certification News,  and/or other publications approved by ONCC.
