Get Certified: Computer-Based Testing

Locate a computer based testing site at www.pearsonvue.com (this applies to 2008 test candidates only).

Candidates need not have prior computer experience for computer based testing (CBT). At the beginning of the test, each candidate will receive a brief introductory tutorial that will instruct the candidate how to use the computer to answer the questions and to review responses. The tutorial enables the candidate to try all of the features of computer-based testing before using them on items that will be scored. Candidates may use the tutorial for up to 10 minutes. A test center staff member is always available for any questions about using the computer.

CBT sessions for OCN® and CPON® candidates may last up to 3 hours, including 10 minutes for the tutorial, 2 hours and 45 minutes for the test, and 5 minutes for an exit survey. For AOCNP® and AOCNS® candidates, the session may last up to 4 hours, including 10 minutes for the tutorial, 3 hours and 45 minutes for the test, and 5 minutes for an exit survey.

The CBT centers administer many types of examinations, including some that require essay-type response. Typing noise is considered a normal part of the computerized testing environment. Ear plugs are available at the center.
