Eligibility Criteria for Initial OCN^® Certification

1. Current, active, unrestricted RN license at the time of application and examination, and
2. A minimum of one year (12 months) experience as an RN within the three years (36 months) prior to application, and
3. A minimum of 1,000 hours of adult oncology nursing practice within the two-and-one-half years (30 months) prior to application, and
4. Completion of 10 contact hours of accredited continuing education in oncology nursing or an academic elective in oncology within the past three years. A maximum of 50% or 5 hours may be Continuing Medical Education. (Click here for a list of acceptable providers/approvers of accredited nursing continuing education.)

Nursing experience may be in the areas of nursing administration, education, clinical practice, or research.

Eligibility Criteria for Renewal of OCN^® Certification

1. Current, active, unrestricted RN license at the time of application and examination, and
2. A minimum of one year (12 months) experience as an RN within the three years (36 months) prior to application, and
3. A minimum of 1,000 hours of oncology nursing practice within the two-and-one-half years (30 months) prior to application.

Nursing experience may be in the areas of nursing administration, education, clinical practice, or research.
