Erica Fischer-Cartlidge named 2015 Certified Breast Care Nurse of the Year

PITTSBURGH, PA – May 12, 2015 – The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has chosen Erica Fischer-Cartlidge, MSN, CNS, CBCN®, AOCNS®, as the 2015 Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN®) of the Year. Fischer-Cartlidge, of Springfield, NJ was selected for the award based on her contributions to breast care nursing and breast care nursing service, and support and promotion of breast care nursing certification.

“I consider myself beyond fortunate to have a rewarding career that I feel so passionately about; to be chosen for this award is even more then I could have imagined, and I am committed to continuing work deserving of this award,” says Fischer-Cartlidge.

Fischer-Cartlidge is a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She is an avid promoter, educator and advocate of breast cancer care and certification. After developing a free continuing education course on Breast Cancer Care, she has helped more than 85 nurses complete the course and 94 percent of those nurses passed the CBCN® test. Since the course began, the certification rate has doubled among the Breast Center nurses, approaching 80 percent. Fischer-Cartlidge has also led multiple initiatives to improve patient care.

Outside of her work at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Fischer-Cartlidge focuses on research and leadership. For instance, she is the newly elected president of the New York City Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).

The award was presented during the ONCC Recognition Breakfast at the Oncology Nursing Society’s (ONS) 40th Annual Congress on April 24, 2015, in Orlando.

The Certified Breast Care Nurse of the Year Award is presented annually to an outstanding CBCN®-certified nurse. To win the award, nominees must have recommendations from two colleagues in the nursingprofession; prepare an essay describing how certification has been promoted; summarize services offered that enhance breast care nursing and nursing service; and demonstrate accomplishments in at least one area of oncology nursing practice – clinical practice, education, or research.

Fischer-Cartlidge is one of more than 36,000 nurses certified as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®), Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse (CPON®), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN®), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP®), Advanced Oncology Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist (AOCNS®), Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN®), Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON®), or Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN™).
