PITTSBURGH, PA – May 12, 2015 – The Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) has chosen F. Diane Barber, PhD, APRN, ANP-BC, AOCNP®, of Richmond, TX, as the 2015 Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse of the Year. Barber was selected for the award based on her contributions to oncology nursing and oncology nursing service, and her support and promotion of oncology nursing certification.
Barber is an Advanced Practice Nurse at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, in the Targeted Therapy department in Houston, TX. She is also a visiting professor at the Chamberlin College of Nursing. Barber is a contributing author to the “Pocket Guide to Targeted Therapy,” which is the only comprehensive text on targeted therapies. She is also active in research – as a reviewer, editor, co-investigator, presenter, study coordinator and co-author.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Barber is a devoted volunteer for Susan G. Komen and Fort Bend County Medical Reserves. She has taken her volunteer commitments global by traveling to Nigeria on a cancer prevention medical mission. Recently, Barber was named president of the Houston chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
"I am honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers for doing what I love – being an oncology nurse practitioner,” says Barber.
The award was presented during the ONCC Recognition Breakfast at the 40th Annual ONS Congress on April 24, 2015 in Orlando.
Barber is one of more than 36,000 nurses certified as an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®), Certified Pediatric Oncology Nurse (CPON®), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN®), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP®), Advanced Oncology Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist (AOCNS®), Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN®), Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON®), or Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN™).
