How would you promote or further the mission of ONCC as a member of the ONCC Board of Directors?

With a passion for hematology-oncology, I have devoted my entire career to the care of this unique patient population. I was drawn to oncology nursing as it provides the opportunity to create a lifelong relationship with patients and their family. I am grateful for the depth of knowledge I have gained along my journey.

My oncology nursing career began in 2007 at Duke Hospital on the medical oncology unit. While at Duke, I obtained my OCN in 2009. In 2010, I completed my master’s and became a Hematology-Oncology Nurse Practitioner at a private oncology practice until 2014 when I began practice at UNC Rex Hematology Oncology Associates. In 2016, I obtained my AOCNP. I moved to Colorado in 2017 where I was in practice as an AOCNP on the Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit at the University of Colorado Hospital. I graduate with my Doctor of Nursing Practice last past May, and I recently started a new position as an Oncology Medical Science Liaison. My oncology nursing journey has given me the privilege of working with oncology nurses and providers in a variety of practice settings.

My personal nursing philosophy is to strive to embody a deep understanding of nursing, a keen clinical acumen, and an empathetic and trusted connection with my patients so that I may provide holistic care while bridging the gap between patients and the healthcare system. My educational philosophy is that of a lifelong learner who is dedicated to sharing my knowledge with fellow oncology nurses and learners through education and collaborative patient care. I hope to promote the mission of ONCC through my commitment to education, clinical practice, professionalism, and emotional intelligence. My academic and career experiences have inspired me to give back to the field of oncology nursing through volunteerism, leadership, team building, analysis of evidence-based practices, and quality initiatives. I hope to support, inspire, enrich, and encourage all current and future nursing learners in the field of oncology. If elected to the ONCC Board of Directors, I will devote my energy to the ongoing promotion of oncology nurse competencies and excellence of oncology patient care.
