What Is the ONCC FreeTake® Program?
The ONCC FreeTake® Program is an employer program that helps organizations support nurses pursuing ONCC certification with less financial risk
Participating organizations agree to provide a minimum of five eligible test applicants during a 12-month agreement period. Designated administrators distribute FreeTake codes to eligible nurses, allowing them to submit their certification test applications without paying the exam fee upfront.
The organization is invoiced only once the participating nurse passes their exam. If the nurse does not pass, no fee is charged for that attempt. If the nurse did not pass, the nurse may apply to retake the test one time within 6 months. If the nurse passes on the second attempt, the organization pays the test fee. If the nurse does not pass, neither the nurse nor the organization pays for that test.

FreeTake is available to participating organizations in the United States and applies to eligible ONCC certification examinations. It is intended to support nurse’s certification efforts.
The program requires a minimum of five test applicants per 12-month agreement period. Organizations that do not meet this requirement may be billed for the shortfall in accordance with the agreement terms.
Organizations that require nurses to pay the test fee to their organization, either before or after testing, should not apply to participate.
Get Started
Enroll in the ONCC FreeTake® Program and your nurses can take an oncology certification test up to two times, and you only pay when they pass. ONCC FreeTake® can be used for all ONCC examinations (OCN®, AOCNP®, CBCN®, CPHON®, TCTCN™, ROCN™).
FreeTake® codes may be used for any ONCC certification examination, except exams in the beta testing phase. Eligibility begins once the exam is available for regular administration.
Here’s how it works:
- Your organization applies to participate in ONCC FreeTake
- You agree to provide at least 5 ONCC test candidates during a 12-month agreement period.
- You distribute special codes to eligible staff to apply online. (This allows nurses to apply without payment.)
- The nurse applies and takes the test. If the nurse passes, you are invoiced for the test fee. If the nurse doesn’t pass, they can apply to retake the test one time within 6 months.
- If the nurse passes on the second attempt, you pay the test fee. If the nurse doesn’t pass, you don’t pay (and neither does the nurse).
The FreeTake® Program cannot be combined with other ONCC programs, such as DoubleTake®, or used in conjunction with any other discounts.
Note: ONCC FreeTake® is an organizational program created to help employers support certification of their staff. It reduces two common barriers to certification experienced by nurses: fear of failure and payment of the test fee. Because this is an organizational program, ONCC will only bill the participating organization for test fees. Organizations that will require nurses to pay the test fee to their organization, either before or after testing, should not apply to participate.
The ONCC FreeTake® Program is not available for international participation.
